I bet you don't know this about me. I love kickboxing. Yes! It is one of my most favorite ways to get rid of stress and stay healthy. And my cats love watching me do side kicks in the living room:)
Kickboxing in the morning has made me super aware of what I eat before and after a sweaty session.
It can be confusing. How much should I eat? How long after should I wait before eating? What should I eat?
Protein is important for muscle recovery – especially if your workout includes free weights. So I drink this smoothie about 30 minutes after my workout if it's an early morning session. I find that if I eat nothing and then workout at 6 or 7 am, I'm great. If I wait much longer, I'm starving. That's when I drink the smoothie before my workout, and postpone kickboxing until late morning, between 10-11 am.
I still make sure to follow my own Ayurvedic routine upon waking, and I need lots of hot water with lemon this time of year....
Here's my favorite Green Smoothie right now:
Blend together these ingredients:
- 1 small frozen banana
- 2 to 3 tablespoons Nutiva organic hemp protein powder
- 1 tablespoon raw almond butter
- 2 big handfuls fresh spinach or kale greens
- 10 ounces unsweetened almond milk
