A Fresh Start
Each spring these ferns come up and remind me of my grandparents, Dorothy and Howard Meyer. They both passed on when I was just a young 14, and then 16 years old.
These ferns were transplanted from their home in downtown Iowa to my parents' home and arrived 20 years ago to where I live now with Jeff and the kids.
Over the weekend I discovered in talking with my aunts and uncles at the surprise retirement/birthday party we hosted for my dad, that there's actually more to the story.
They were originally first moved from my great-grandparent's home.
Meaning they've been in the family for at least four generations.
I love knowing how they moved from place to place and still come up every year, pushing through the black dirt and looking fresh and new.
I was outside watering them last week when I had this insight:
What we plant has the opportunity to not just grow – but come through, again and again, taking a new form, with open eyes, creating new experiences for whoever comes within its path.
And just like us, these ferns come up again and again with a fresh start, for new eyes.
Today they rest in our yard with the next generation playing games like hide-and-seek and laughing.
Taking new roots once again...
Which brings me to ask You:
What are you growing now?
How are you stretching?
Where do see things differently?
Are you willing to see with NEW eyes with a FRESH perspective?
And what wants to come up and through now?
To your new beginning taking root ~ xo
